Over the next two weeks you will design an imaginary kingdom using a series of ten drawings. Listed below are 10 drawing assignments to help you develop all of the parts of your kingdom; please complete one assignment each day. To get started, you will need a pencil and paper. Read the drawing assignment then click on the [VIDEO:topic] to be redirected to a short lesson. Each drawing should have a background, details and color to be finished. You can add color using any medium you have at home, such as crayons or markers. Each Friday, have a parent email ONE photo that includes all of the drawings you completed that week to KCallahan@gatewayschool.org. The email should include your full name and class. For example, you may write Joe Kole’s drawings week one, 5Y.
1. Draw a castle. A castle can be created by combining big and small shapes. Castles can have drawbridges, towers, courtyards and moats. Try showing details on the castle by adding mark-making to create textures and patterns. [VIDEO:CASTLE]
2. Draw a wizard. Kingdoms often have wizards that have magical powers. Wizards wear capes, hats and may have a wand. Triangles are an important shape when drawing wizards. [VIDEO:WIZARD]
3. Draw a crown. Important people in kingdoms can wear crowns on their heads. Crowns can be covered in diamonds and gems. They can be made of gold or silver. [VIDEO:CROWN]
4. Draw a flag that will represent your kingdom. Flags use the kingdom’s favorite colors and shapes. [VIDEO:FLAG]
5. Draw a portrait of one person in the royal family. The royal family of the kingdom may have kings, queens, princes, and princesses. Portraits show the face and upper body of the royal person.[VIDEO:PORTRAIT]
6. Draw a ship. Ships bring the kingdom food and supplies. For most of history, ships had sails which helped them move forward in the water. Sails are triangle shaped. [VIDEO:SHIP]
7. Draw an animal. The animal lives in the moat protecting your castle. A moat is the water that surrounds a castle. Castles that have moats can only be entered by crossing a bridge. Sometimes there are animals that live in the water to remind people not to go in. You can choose any animal you want to live in your moat. [VIDEO:MOAT]
8. Draw a garden. Kingdoms have royal gardens full of flowers, vegetables, and trees. Draw a picture of your kingdom’s garden. [VIDEO:GARDEN]
9. Draw a dragon. Great kingdoms have dragons. A dragon can be friendly, scary, or silly. What type of dragon will your kingdom have? Use shapes to draw a dragon. Below are options for texture. The dragon should have texture all over the body. [VIDEO:DRAGON]
10. Draw a map. Maps use symbols to show people where important places are located in the kingdom. Here are some places that should be on the map: the castle, a field, the town square, the ocean/river, the ship, the garden, a forest, the school and the village.
